The Mildura Rowing Club has a long and proud history of over 100 years in the Sunraysia Community. The existing clubhouse is the third to be erected on the Mildura riverfront area. The previous two suffering extensively from flooding which is why the existing clubhouse is built on a location much higher than the previous two.
The Rowing Club has a membership base incorporating people of all ages and professions. Not all members are active rowers, however, most have had an involvement with rowing at some point in their lives and continue to revel in the camaraderie of the Club.
The Rowing Club has an excellent Social Room on the river side of the building which is unknown to many. A huge glass frontage overlooks the river and our social rooms are fully licensed. Numerous Club functions take place during the year and it is an excellent venue.
The remainder of the Clubhouse building houses our fleet of boats and a small gymnasium. The Club maintains a fleet of numerous boats of all configurations. We also house several privately owned boats (sculls) for some members.
The Club attempts to maintain it's fleet of boats and oars in top condition, however, this can be an expensive exercise. Many rowing boats are well in excess of $10,000 to buy new and one oar can cost in the vicinity of $600.
The Club's main fundraising exercise every year is as the host of the Mildura Henley on the Murray. This is traditionally held on Easter Saturday and all members pitch in to make it a successful day.
The main Club meeting time of the week is Sunday mornings. During the remainder of the week, members can row at any time they choose, however, generally crews or scullers will hit the water around 6am.
Once a member of the Club you are entitled to use mostly any boat in the Club fleet when desired. You are able to obtain a key to the clubhouse which enables you to take a boat out at any convenient time to yourself or your crew. The only stipulation is that you are deemed competant enough in the skills of rowing to do so. This generally follows a period of training for those who classed as 'beginners'.
The feeling of rowing in unison as a crew member of a four or eight is thrilling and exciting.
